If you’re thinking about buying a bodycon midi dress, you are a brave woman! Midi dresses can be tricky to wear, and bodycon midi dresses are a whole ‘nother story. Still, if you are one of those daring women who can pull it off, you will wow everyone in your path. Here are four tips to help you look fierce instead of funky.

The Right Length

Wherever a dress’s hem hits, the eye stops. For a maxi dress, this means that the eye moves from the waist all the way to the floor, which makes you look longer and leaner. A midi dress hits mid calf which can be pretty unflattering. There are ways to make this work for you, though.

Don’t be a stickler for having your midi hit exactly mid calf. Instead, try on several dresses and see if you look better with the hem slightly above or below your mid-calf mark. The advantage of a bodycon midi is that, with a slight tug, the hem can hit a little higher or lower.

The Right Shoe

Wearing a bodycon midi dress gives you the excuse you need (as if we needed one!) to wear your sexiest, sky-high stilettos. Wearing heels creates a longer line, visually, from your hem to the ground. Never wear flats! Even a low heel can be a vast improvement over no heel. In fact, you’d be wise to take a pair of heels with you when you try on your midi at the store so you can know the length is right for you.

The Right Accessories

It’s tempting to bust out all your biggest and brightest jewelry when you’re strutting your stuff. However, it’s pretty easy to overdo it when it comes to a bodycon midi. Your body needs to be the star of the show. You’ve already donned sexy sandals, so dial down the accessories. If the neckline of your dress is high, skip the necklace and choose earrings and bracelets that compliment your ensemble. If the neckline is low, choose something sparkly but not overwhelming and go with simpler earrings.

The Right Foundation

The last thing you want is to be bulgy when you’re wearing a tight dress. Some bodycon midis have straps or open backs that make it difficult to wear a bra. Whatever you do, don’t even think of skimping in the underwear department. Invest in slimming shapewear or a backless, strapless bra. A fantastic foundation will let your body shine in your bodycon midi dress.
